GTA 6 Ultimate Edition prompts concerns over exclusive shops
Rockstar set the standard price for Grand Theft Auto 6 at $79.99, a number that surprised and relieved many fans who feared a far higher tag. There is, however, an Ultimate Edition priced at $99 that includes a bundle of pre-order bonuses. Not all of the reactions have been positive.
The marketed “physical” edition is actually a code in a box, a detail that annoyed players amid rising SSD prices. Nintendo’s recent decision to charge less for some digital Switch 2 releases provides a contrasting approach to pricing. The Ultimate Edition’s extras include five exclusive shops: a salon for Jason and Lucia where players can change facial hair, makeup, and nails; a streetwear store; a tattoo shop with 50 ink options; a contraband hub; and two vehicle customization shops.
Some items, like weapons and vehicles, will alter the player experience, but Rockstar says the shops are technically aesthetic — a distinction that still fuels FOMO given how much of GTA’s appeal comes from role-play and dress-up. Fans are split.
