God of War Laufey was announced as the final part of PlayStation State of Play, accompanied by 20 minutes of footage. The upcoming PS5 game finds Kratos' departed wife Faye waking in a new realm after the events of God of War (2018)'s opening. The gameplay shown looks more action-heavy, akin to the Greek saga, but it is not set in Greece.

In one sequence Faye encounters a distinctly Egyptian-looking foe identified by her companion as Sekhmet, though that companion did not appear Egyptian. A PlayStation Blog post explains Faye has ended up in the Everywhen, described as "where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic." The blog also names the enemy as Begtse, a Dharmapala who is the lord of war in Tibetan Buddhism.

The Everywhen is called "the birthplace and endpoint to which all magic returns, a transcendent realm above those we've come to know," where gods and creatures from different mythologies come together, not always in harmonious coexistence.
