Fox Corp is acquiring Roku in a $22 billion deal that will give the media company access to Roku’s installed base of 100 million households. Fox shareholders will own about 73% of the combined company after closing, which is expected in the first half of 2027. Roku, the U.S.

market leader in connected TV devices, was founded in 2002 and launched the first connected TV device to stream Netflix in 2008. The company has largely earned revenue through advertising and channel subscriptions, reporting around $4.74 billion in 2025. The purchase appears aimed at countering cord-cutting, particularly among younger viewers, and would allow Fox to promote its programming such as Fox Sports and Fox News more prominently on the platform.

The deal comes amid broader consolidation in the media industry: Paramount Skydance is in the process of acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery for about $111 billion, and the Department of Justice approved that purchase on June 12.
