Fans Debate Whether GTA 6 Is Effectively a $100 Game
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19 for Xbox and PlayStation 5. The standard edition is priced at $80, while an Ultimate Edition costs $100, and some fans argue that the locked content in the pricier version effectively makes the game a $100 product. The Ultimate Edition grants access to multiple in-game shops that the $80 edition apparently cannot enter, along with exclusive cars, weapons, car mods and cosmetics.
That has sparked concern among players who fear the standard purchase will leave them with a lesser experience; one Reddit user warned it could feel “like a fucking mobile game” if upgrade prompts appear near locked stores. Others counter that a handful of paywalled shops and items won’t spoil the overall game, and they point to Rockstar’s history of special editions with exclusive content—GTA V’s blimp, retailer-locked items in the original Red Dead Redemption, and Red Dead Redemption II’s Ultimate Edition extras.
Several players said they hadn’t realized they missed content in past titles.
