‘Euphoria’ finale: Rue dies and where the main characters ended up
HBO confirmed the Emmy-winning drama is over after seven years and three seasons, and the series finale, titled "In God We Trust," closes on a bleak note. Rue, who battled opioid addiction and suicidal thoughts, dies from an accidental overdose after tipping off the DEA to bring down the drug kingpin Laurie.
Believing she had regained Alamo Brown’s trust, she was given Percocet laced with fentanyl as revenge; as she dies she hallucinates moments with Fezco, Jules, and an imagined reunion with her mother. Creator Sam Levinson summed the end bluntly: "The honest ending is people like Rue don't make it." Jules ends the series painting a tribute to Rue while living in the upscale apartment of her boyfriend and sugar daddy.
Nate, who died earlier after being bitten by a rattlesnake while buried alive, does not appear in the finale. Cassie is shown trying to rebuild, telling people her husband disappeared while she and Maddy stage content from Cassie’s empty rooms; she sits under a ring light in an emotional final shot.
