Dune: Prophecy rises to HBO Max's global top five
Dune: Prophecy, HBO Max's hard sci-fi series, has resurfaced on the streaming charts after a rocky start. Released in 2024 and set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides, the show adapts Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert (the son of Frank Herbert) and Kevin J. Anderson, tracing the early days of House Harkonnen and Tula Harkonnen's role in founding the Bene Gesserit.
Critical reaction was mixed at launch, leaving the series with a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 63% audience score. It enjoyed strong initial viewership thanks to the Dune brand but saw interest wane as reviews arrived; it has now climbed to become the fifth most popular series on HBO Max globally.
HBO Max approved a second season soon after Season 1 concluded in December 2024. Filming on Season 2 has wrapped, the episode count will expand to eight from the first season's six, and the new run is expected sometime in late 2026, though that date has not been officially confirmed.
