Polygon reports that beginning on April 29, Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will shift to an original-trilogy focus, introducing walkaround Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Darth Vader and Imperial stormtroopers, adding new missions to Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run, and playing John Williams' Star Wars score throughout the land.

The land was originally pitched as an immersive, original story set on the outer-rim planet Batuu, placed between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, with promises of aliens, droids, bounty hunters and a reputation system. Disney CEO Bob Iger said when announcing the land in 2015, "The attractions, the entertainment, everything we create will be part of our storytelling. Nothing will be out of character or stray from the mythology."

The piece says many planned elements were cut before the 2019 opening: wandering aliens and droids were largely absent, there was one main original character (Vi Moradi) and only occasional appearances by Rey, Chewbacca or Kylo Ren, leaving the area notable for its two rides and heavy retail presence. Walt Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge will remain unchanged for now, the article notes, and it also says Rey will still appear at the Resistance base while questions remain about how the change will relate to future Lucasfilm projects that do not feature the original trilogy.
