Danny Boyle Reveals 28 Years Later 3 Will Start Filming in 2027
Danny Boyle has confirmed that production on the third installment of the 28 Years Later franchise is expected to begin in 2027. The director said the shoot was delayed because the planned British locations can only be filmed at certain times of year, explaining, "We ran out of time.
Because it's set in an area of Britain [where] you can only film at certain times of the year. We ran out of time this year – we literally ran out of time… So it'll be, hopefully, fingers crossed, next year." Boyle praised Alex Garland’s script for the new film and will return to direct after Nia DaCosta helmed the previous entry.
Despite strong reviews for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, that film underperformed at the box office, earning $58.5 million worldwide against a $63 million budget, while the 2025 installment had taken in $151 million against a $60 million budget. The last two entries have centered on Spike, played by Alfie Williams, who recently teased a possible return.
