The 31st Critics Choice Awards, held on Sunday, arrived in a scheduling twist before the Golden Globe Awards and served as an early showcase of the season’s fashions. Presented by a group of more than 500 broadcast critics and journalists, the ceremony’s black carpet mixed standard tuxedos and Old Hollywood glamour with riskier ensembles featuring saturated colors, atypical silhouettes and theatrical details.

The Styles Desk highlighted 13 looks it called some of the most memorable. Among the singled-out outfits were Paul Downs and Megan Stalter’s matching orange ensembles, which echoed Timothée Chalamet’s and Kylie Jenner’s earlier looks; Erin Doherty’s strapless spearmint Louis Vuitton gown; Amy Madigan’s Dior menswear-inspired denim; Chase Infiniti’s butter-yellow Louis Vuitton dress; Paul Mescal’s black Gucci tuxedo with a V-neck T-shirt; Odessa A’zion’s voluminous, spangly Ott Dubai gown (she addressed wig speculation in an interview with Deadline Hollywood on the carpet); Teyana Taylor’s feathered Saint Laurent look; Alexander Skarsgard’s Valentino tuxedo with white bows on his shirt cuffs; Mia Goth’s off-the-shoulder Dior that resembled a wedding dress; Timothée Chalamet’s pinstripe Givenchy evoking 1950s period style; Michael B.

Jordan’s oxblood double-breasted Louis Vuitton suit with tooth-colored buttons; and Ariana Grande’s beaded, blush-pink Alberta Ferretti gown that nodded to her character Glinda and to Diahann Carroll’s 1969 Oscars gown.
