Critical Role reveals scheduling challenge in Campaign 4
Running a longform Dungeons & Dragons campaign brings a lot of moving parts, but the biggest recurring hurdle for Critical Role has been scheduling. In earlier years the cast took the last Thursday of the month off to run a talk show, sponsored one-shot or other replacement; since Campaign 4 began they now only take breaks whenever "the story finds a natural pause" and for special U.S.
holidays. Behind-the-scenes details appeared in The Lore Keeper’s Ledger, an exclusive monthly newsletter for Beacon members written by Dani Carr and Jared Deiro. The latest issue, titled "Rookery Reunion," breaks down what recording looks like when you must consider 14 different schedules and when Production Manager Jeremiah Rivas has to line everything up.
Because the cast all have other commitments as working actors, episodes sometimes get shot "close together," as happened with Campaign 4 episodes 25, 26 and 27.
