Couple retired to Costa Rica with two sons and a $1.6M home
Allyson and Andrew Rappaport spent years running a veterinary practice in New York, often working six days a week, and lived with their two sons in a four-bedroom home in Ridgefield, Connecticut. When the chance to sell the practice came up, they saw an opportunity to retire, slow down, and rethink what they wanted their family life to look like.
"We started soul-searching about what we really wanted our lives to look like and what we wanted our kids' lives to look like," Andrew said. The family had visited Costa Rica many times and kept coming back to Las Catalinas, a car-free beachfront town on the Pacific coast.
They fell in love with the town, and their sons — then 6 and 8 — were excited about the move. In 2020 they sold their Connecticut home for $915,000 and relocated permanently. The Rappaports have owned two properties in Las Catalinas. They sold their first house for around $1.5 million and in 2021 bought a larger four-bedroom home for $1.6 million, spending roughly $200,000 on renovations.
