Cooler Master revives blower-style GPU shroud with MasterFlow
Cooler Master is bringing back the blower-style GPU shroud with its new MasterFlow accessory. It sits atop a graphics card and redirects hot exhaust out of the case rather than toward the CPU. Blower-style shrouds were common on older reference cards but have largely been replaced by dual- and triple-fan designs that expose heatsinks on both sides.
Those modern layouts cool GPUs effectively but often send hot air upward into the CPU area. "What we wanted to do is help to eliminate hot air from the GPU going into the CPU area," says Cooler Master representative Brett Buren at Cooler Master HQ in Taiwan. "Obviously, with a lot of new GPUs, like 5080s and 5090s, they have a passage on the back of the GPU to let hot air escape.
But the downside of that is that it interferes with the CPU." The MasterFlow rests in an unused expansion slot above the GPU and collects exhaust air; a small radial fan inside blows the air toward the slot.
