Clive Davis, 94, hospitalized in NYC with upper respiratory infection
Clive Davis was hospitalized in New York City on Friday after a spokesperson said he was suffering from 'an upper respiratory infection' and, out of an abundance of caution, was admitted to the hospital. The spokesperson added Davis is expected to be released in 24 hours.
The 94-year-old, who helped shape the careers of artists including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Kelly Clarkson, had been seen days earlier at the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner and Auction in New York City. He has faced health issues before; in February 2021 he was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy and postponed the second half of his annual pre-Grammys party.
Davis entered the music business in the early '60s and became president of Columbia Records in 1967 at age 35. He has won five Grammy Awards, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a non-performer in 2000, and told Rolling Stone in 2017, 'I'm immersed in it. I think music is the universal language.'
