Pcgamer reports that Bladesong, a fantasy swordsmithing simulator, launches in early access on Steam on January 22 and that a demo is available now.

The game promises an elaborate toolset for handcrafting swords, from period-accurate arming blades to glowing, rune-etched high-fantasy designs. Its simulated blacksmithing lets players shape length, width, thickness and cross-section; use precise hammering to taper, curve or alter spine width and edge concavity; and apply dynamic fuller technology. Hilt construction is modular, with freely malleable quellon segments and scalable grips, producing what the report describes as a simulation made for extreme sword enthusiasts.

The demo offers a limited selection of the full game's features but includes a surprisingly compelling story mode set in an eerie medieval postapocalypse where gods have died and players craft blades for remaining pockets of civilization. Early access will add more engraving options, ornamentations, materials and blade-shaping techniques, while the demo and launch details outline what is currently playable versus what will arrive at release.
