Avatar: Fire and Ash reaches $1.32B, surpasses Last Jedi and Deathly Hallows
According to Collider, James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash has reached $1.32 billion globally, overtaking Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2.
Having recently completed a month of release in theaters worldwide, the film dropped to the number two spot on the domestic charts, surrendering the top position to Zootopia 2 rather than a new release. On Monday, Zootopia 2 made $3.6 million in its 55th day of release, while Avatar 3 grossed $3.4 million on its 32nd day, a sign of rapidly declining momentum. Both earlier Avatar films set numerous box office records; the first and Avatar: The Way of Water have grosses of $2.9 billion and $2.3 billion respectively. By comparison, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 sits at a 96% "certified fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Avatar 3 has settled at 66%.
The film, released December 19, 2025, runs 197 minutes and is directed by James Cameron; it is now looking at a final haul of under $1.5 billion and remains in theaters.
