Animal Crossing 3.0 hotel brings visiting tourists, divides players
Gamesradar reports that Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 3.0 update adds a hotel feature that lets players design guest rooms and buy items in a souvenir shop — and, unexpectedly for some, tourists actually show up on players' islands.
Many players enjoyed decorating rooms but felt intruded upon when unfamiliar villagers wandered around; the game does not give an option to choose who visits. "When the trailer dropped i imagined we'd have the option to choose who to invite to the hotel if we wanted - seeing as we are allowed to choose *everything* else about our islands, that seemed like a fair assumption, i'd really like the option to disable the guests wandering around," said one Redditor. Others welcomed the change: a Reddit post with more than 3,000 upvotes said the feature "makes me feel like I didn't waste all that time for nothing," and another supporter wrote, "I don't understand the hate. It's the best thing that could have happened to the game!"
Some players have been emotionally moved when former villagers visit and appear to remember past ties: "Seeing my OG villager visit my island made me cry," one player said, and another noted that hotel visitors remembering you contrasts with Happy Home Paradise DLC returns. The community remains split between those who want control over which guests arrive and those who enjoy the rotating visitors.
