Andros Townsend has urged Christian Eriksen to consider retiring after the midfielder suffered a second frightening collapse on the pitch. The 34-year-old went down during Denmark's friendly with Ukraine in Odense in the 65th minute and the match was abandoned.

Townsend suggested Eriksen should put his health and family first. He told talkSPORT: "Of course, on the outside, yes, I'd advise him," and said it is hard to know what goes on in the head of a player who has worked so hard to return after almost dying on the pitch.

The Danish Football Union said Eriksen is conscious and doing well after being taken to Odense University Hospital, and that the implantable cardioverter defibrillator fitted in 2021 "functioned exactly as intended." Danish team doctor Morten Boesen said: "I spoke with Christian this morning, and he is doing well.
