I had only just finished testing the Radeon RX 9070 GRE before I flew out to Taipei for Computex 2026, and when I sat down with AMD's David McAfee we talked about one of the most striking things in the Navi 48 family: the overclocking headroom, especially the extra performance you can unlock by undervolting the GPU.

"It was certainly not accidental," McAfee said, noting that AMD recognises overclockability as a key feature for many gamers and enthusiasts. In past generations, product definitions often squeezed every ounce of headroom into stock SKUs, leaving little space for the community to experiment.

That approach has changed. McAfee drew a parallel with the Ryzen journey, saying the strategy for Radeon is to give users more value, be community‑centric, and deliver the kinds of experiences players want from the platform. He described building the Radeon platform as a multi‑generation effort focused on what end users actually get from their systems.
