An autopsy by the Okanogan County Coroner in Washington ruled the death of 'Alaskan Bush People' star Matt Brown a suicide, caused by a single penetrating gunshot wound to the head. The report noted contributing circumstances of subsequent immersion in water — a river — and that he was under the influence of methamphetamine.

Brown’s body will be released to his family for final arrangements. On May 27 a witness called 911 after spotting a man later identified as Brown wading in the Okanogan River near Oroville, Washington. The witness briefly turned away and then heard a loud noise; they then saw Brown floating face-down in a swift current.

Brown’s younger brother Bear said he had been told that Matt took his own life and said his brother had been struggling for a long time with alcohol and with drugs and did not want anything to do with the family. Bear later confirmed authorities identified the body; it was recovered from the river on May 30 and Brown was 43.
