After years testing, wireless security cameras are my first choice
After years of testing, a good wireless camera now handles most homeowners' needs and is often my first choice. I run a surveillance system at home with 10 cameras, only two of which are wired. Placement, storage and ease of use matter far more than the highest resolution or the longest feature list.
Battery-powered cameras offer much more flexibility in placement. South-facing outdoor units with solar panels can need charging only once a year, while battery models without solar work well in shady spots. Because wireless cameras don’t require running cable, you can mount them on fences or trees to cover areas that would be difficult to wire.
Decide what problem the camera should solve before you buy: deterring porch theft, watching a driveway, capturing evidence, monitoring a garage, checking on pets, or simply knowing when someone’s at the door.
