Valve has published full details for the Steam Machine, including four pricing tiers: Steam Machine 512 GB (no Steam Controller) - $1,049, 512 GB (with Steam Controller) - $1,128, 2 TB (no Steam Controller) - $1,349, and 2 TB (with Steam Controller) - $1,428. The hardware lists an AMD Zen 4 CPU with six cores and 12 threads (up to 4.8 GHz), a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 GPU with 8GB GDDR6, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and up to 2TB NVMe SSD storage.

It runs SteamOS 3, which features the KDE Plasma desktop, and will ship to consumers starting June 29; sign-ups must be completed by June 25 and reservations require a Steam purchase made before April 27, 2026. Because SteamOS is a customized distribution based on Arch Linux, each Steam Machine will deliver a full KDE Plasma desktop alongside the gaming experience.

That combination could introduce Linux to many people who have never knowingly used it, turning what is often an obscure option into a familiar, consumer-facing operating system.
